On leaving Palencia, the Canal de Castilla continues towards Villamuriel de Cerrato where the 33rd sluice is situated just before entering the village. In Villamuriel, three new aqueducts can be found, the El Cigarral, the Prado Redondo and the El Corral aqueduct.
Today, Villamuriel de Cerrato is an industrialised village with over 100 firms which have not, however, affected this village's past. The 12th century was the glorious age of the village. The 13th century Iglesia de Santa María la Mayor belonged to the Orden del Temple and was used as the Episcopal residence.
