The Acueducto de Abánades or ‘del Rey’ is one of the Canal de Castilla's most beautiful sights. This aqueduct is what enables the water of the Canal flow into the river. Just after passing the Valderramiro aqueduct, tourists will come across this aqueduct consisting of 5 arches. In Melgar de Fernamental the towpath leads to the Abánades water tower.
Melgar de Fernamental is a village in the province of Burgos. This old medieval village still has the air of a grand village whose past has left its mark on the old medieval mansions that still remain. One example of these medieval buildings is the Renaissance Ayuntamiento with its stone façade. Another example of note is the Casa del Cordón. This mid-16th century mansion was owned by the Cevallos family and the Marqueses de Trebolar. The Casa de los Palazuelos-Emperador, another example, dates from the 18th century.
