On the other side of the Canal is Cigales which gives its name to the Denominación de Origen and has become famous for its claret in Castilla y León.
Two of the Canal's last aqueducts, the Mucientes and the Sopeña aqueduct are situated here. The Herreran style Iglesia de Santiago Apóstol in the village, from the distance, bears a close resemblance to the Catedral de Santiago de Compostela. Inside the church, the superb Baroque altarpiece, the work of the artist Gil de Hontañón, played an important part in the church's being declared cultural heritage.
