The archaeological site of Los Tolmos is located south of the town of Caracena, occupying 4.9 hectares on the slopes of a meander of the river, in the narrow gorge in which two small stone plateaus or tolmos stand out that give it its name.

The archaeological excavations carried out have made it possible to recognize settlements from the middle stage of the Bronze Age, late Roman and medieval times.

The favorable characteristics of the location and the existence of a human settlement over almost 4,000 years, in which, due to its antiquity and typology, the seasonal settlement of people who built and lived in log cabins, made outdoor fires and of which several burials from the Middle Bronze Age are recognized, dated to the first half of the 2nd millennium BC. C., make this one of the most notable archaeological sites of the time recognized and investigated in the east of the Northern Plateau.
