This route retracing the steps of Saint Teresa starts in Alba de Tormes, renowned as the origin of the House of Alba, although essentially it owes its place in history as the place where Saint Teresa of Ávila lived out her final days in a cell in the Monastery of La Anunciación.

Each October Alba de Tormes holds a festival in honour of the saint. It has been declared an event of Regional Tourist Interest and includes a procession around the town streets, drawing large numbers of devout residents and visitors.
