Known as ‘The North East Volcano’, El Bierzo is one of the potentially most important grape and wine growing regions in Castilla y León. Located to the north east of the province of León, it is on the border with Galicia and it represents an important transition area between this Community, Asturias and the rest of the León province.
In these lands, through which the Camino de Santiago crosses and to which thousands of pilgrims go every year heading for the Apostle's tomb, the mencía grape also arrived, which is the top variety in the production area. This grape's wide possibilities allow us to elaborate intensely coloured wines which are lengthy on the palate, with the help of other varieties like the garnacha, the godello, doña Blanca, malvasía and palomino.
