What are the wines of the PGI "Castile and León" like?
The wines protected by the PGI "Castile and León", in its traditional name, "Brand "Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León"", can be: still wines (white, rosé and red), liqueur wines, quality sparkling wines made using the traditional method, semi-sparkling wines and wines from overripe grapes.
- Young white wines are fresh and fruity, with a great presence on the palate, which differentiates them, in a special way, from young white wines made in other regions.
- Rosé wines, especially those produced in traditional areas for this type of wine, are fresh, with aromas of red fruits and a pleasant mouthfeel. If they are from Prieto Picudo, they are very special, with a significant body and fruity aftertaste. The sparkling nature of some also gives them a special touch.
- The red wines are powerful, with aromas of ripe fruit, a high content of colouring matter, good structure and great capacity for long ageing.
- Sparkling wines, although they have only recently begun to be produced, are fresh, delicate and have a complex aromatic profile marked by the variety and the notes of ageing on the lees.
- Sparkling wines are a very traditional wine produced in some areas of Castile and León. They tend to be rosé wines, with a more intense colour, fresh, with great liveliness, accentuated by the sparkle and with a greater structure in the mouth.
- Finally, liqueur wines and overripe grape wines are wines with a high alcohol content, made from very ripe or overripe grapes, with complex aromas, and in many cases with traces of oxidative ageing. Their characteristics are reminiscent of traditional wines from Western Andalusia.
