Alcobaça Monastery
It is one of the most important Cistercian abbeys in Europe, a symbol of the Cistercian. Its foundation took place in the 12th century, by donation from the first king of Portugal, Don Alfonso Henríquez, to Bernardo de Clairvaux. The church, which began at the chancel, as was usual, with three naves at the same height, the transept with two naves and the ambulatory, form a complex that impresses with its simplicity, grandeur and austerity.
