The route runs through the municipality without entering this small town standing on the River Órbigo. Although the Silver Route originally went through the town, today it has been diverted away from this area, dotted with cornfields and surrounded by the Castañón hills.
The town nestles in fertile meadowlands that produce abundant crops of beans, potatoes and beetroot. The town has a high street, known as Calle Real - site of the residence of the Marquis of Castañón - and which originally formed part of the transhumance route.
This town is also the site of the Parish Church of San Juan Bautista and the Celtic fortified settlement.
