Santa María la Real de Nieva is a historic town on the Madrid Way of the Pilgrims’ Route to Santiago. It is the capital of the judicial district and offers numerous services and amenities, as well as a rich cultural heritage that is well worth exploring, with sites such as the Church of Nuestra Señora de Soterraña.

It was founded by Catherine of Lancaster following the miraculous appearance of the Virgin of La Soterraña before a shepherd in 1392.
