Cistercian monastery from the 12th and 13th centuries, founded by King Alfonso VIII and his wife in 1188 to house Cistercian nuns.

In the Royal Pantheon lie, in Gothic tombs, the kings Alfonso VIII and his wife Doña Leonor de Plantagenet, King Henry I, Queen Doña Berenguela, Prince Don Fernando de la Cerda and numerous princes and figures of royal blood linked to the Crown of Castile.

The exterior of the Monastery shows its strong defensive tower and remains of the walled enclosure. Surrounded by a crenellated wall, the monastery has a Romanesque and Gothic design.
