In keeping with a custom of other towns, this festivity came about when a group of residents in Oña decided to reenact the founding of the town’s monastery by Count Sancho García in 1011. A site of great historical, cultural and architectural value, the monastery is also the site of the tombs of kings, princes, princesses, counts and bishops.
