The road runs alongside the River Esla as it makes its way past the dryland cereal fields. This town is considered the start of the region known as Lampreana, on the Silver Route, and like the rest of the area, is renowned for its long-standing tradition of providing board and lodging, and in particular the charity of the monks of the Order of St Jerome. This route passes by the road that crosses the city, dividing it into two.
This town is also the site of the 16th century Church of San Cristóbal.
