The origins of this town, divided into three districts - Mata de Armuña, Carbajosa de Armuña date back to the days of the repopulation in the early 12th century.

Agriculture is the principal activity of the local residents, as the vast cereal fields indicate. The town’s proximity to Salamanca has also led to the creation of large developments of single family homes, although it retains traces of its past as a pilgrimage route, as shown by its street named ‘de la Calzada’ (literally ‘roadway’) today trod by modern-day pilgrims.

This town is also the site of the Church of San Juan Bautista.
