Villa del Alón, which means ‘town of the land’, enjoyed a period of great prosperity during the 13th century following the granting of the right to hold markets and fairs there, and during the 15th and 16th it was the site of a large cattle market run under the auspices of the Pimentel family, Counts of Benavente, who wielded considerable influence throughout the region. Indeed, they erected the jurisdictional column in 1523 as a means of holding onto their power.

This town also includes the following sites of interest: the Jurisdictional Column, the Church of San Miguel, the Church of San Juan Bautista, the Church of San Pedro and the Chapel of Nuestra Señora de las Fuentes.
