He specializes in paleography and diplomacy, disciplines that are the focus of his research. His career took him to the Complutense University and, subsequently, to the University of Valladolid , where he became a professor in the Department of Prehistory, Archaeology, Social Anthropology, and Historiographic Sciences and Techniques until his retirement.
In 2016, he was awarded the Castilla y León Prize for Social Sciences and Humanities for his extensive and fruitful professional career in the fields of paleography, diplomacy, and history, with a vast amount of work transcribing medieval Castilian and Leonese documents.
