In collaboration with the College of Architects of Avila and the family of Antonio López, an exhibition will be held during the month of February with the aim of reviewing the practice of architecture in the last 40 years in the province of Avila through some of the works of Antonio López Díaz . Where the professional is intertwined with the personal, revealing in his works his concerns and personal experiences.

The practice of the trade adapts to the times and demands of each assignment; society changes and projects evolve, the way of representing architecture reflects the available technology.

Antonio's work reflects architecture's response to the social, political and economic changes that are taking place. He belongs to a generation of professionals linked to a territory and convinced of the importance of contemporary architecture for social improvement and human well-being.

It also conveys both respect for tradition and a taste for modernity, covering all building scenes and categories, extending across a spectrum that goes from the domestic to the heritage, from the rural to the urban, from the vernacular to the institutional, from the anonymous to the unique.

Most of the documents and objects on display are part of the documentation deposited in this archive and will constitute the personal archive of Antonio López Díaz, architect.

Antonio López Díaz (1952-2021), an architect with a degree from the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Madrid (ETSAM). His work as an architect focused on rural areas and natural areas, particularly highlighting his rehabilitation projects in the provinces of Avila, Salamanca and Madrid.

He devoted much of his career to the development of rural areas, carrying out studies and giving lectures on traditional and vernacular architecture in the Northern Zone of Gredos, with important projects in the Gredos Regional Park.

His most significant professional development was linked to the field of rehabilitation, with projects in Historic-Artistic Complexes and listed buildings, such as the Prison Building, the Pedro Lagasca Theatre and the Puerta de Gredos Hotel in El Barco de Ávila. He also carried out interventions in unique urban environments, such as Candeleda, and in Assets of Cultural Interest, among which stand out the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and the Castle of Valdecorneja in El Barco de Ávila, the Church and Plaza of Bonilla de la Sierra, and the Church of Mosén Rubí in Avila.

The Provincial Historical Archive:

The Provincial Historical Archive of Avila is the institution responsible for the custody and conservation of the Documentary Heritage of this province. In this sense, in addition to collecting the documentation generated by the different administrations, it promotes the collection of private funds of different nature, photographic, literary, from companies, artists or creators that increase the knowledge and collective memory of the people of Ávila.

In addition to the description and identification of the Documentary Heritage it safeguards in order to provide documentation to citizens, researchers and administrations, it is necessary to make this Heritage known. In this context, activities are carried out to disseminate and exhibit the documentary collections, as well as guided and educational tours.

The exhibition "Antonio López Díaz. Architect" also aims to thank his family for depositing these and other documents and objects so that they remain in this archive and can be consulted.
