The "Ancha es Castilla" collective was born about 10 years ago from an old idea of ​​our beloved José María Silva, from the Dulzaineros de Campos .
Since then, this group of friends has been getting together on a few occasions to show the public what we often do in private. We get together to sing and dance. We want to reclaim the joy and enjoyment that is at the origin and in the very essence of traditional music and dance.
Many times, especially when we go on stage, we forget that these songs were born for the entertainment of people and that they were not material for a show to entertain the public, but rather a tool to socialize and have fun and for everyone to participate.
On the other hand, we believe that rigor and good work are not at odds with having a good time and, after all, we do what we learned from our elders, who taught us to sing and dance, most of the time, in a kitchen with the lesson that less is more and that to have fun you only need desire and little else...
There are days when we have to dress up and go out to the main festival to do the big dance, but other times, most of the time, the dance is done at home with the family repertoire and with any excuse to get together and that is something that unites us all, because in tradition there are more things that make us equal than those that separate us in the different regions and districts.
As for our clothing, it is a nod and a tribute to the people from whom we learned to sing and dance. The field work that we have been able to do has been, above all, kitchen work and the way in which we have always seen our informants has been this: with the clothes of domestic chores. It is the image with which we identify very dear people who gave us the gift of bequeathing us all this heritage that now, in some way, we are obliged to transmit to whoever comes, so this moment goes to all of them.
"Ancha es Castilla", also known as the group Desechos de la Tradición, is a group of musicians, researchers, dancers and, above all, friends, who have come from Cantabria, El Bierzo, Leon, Palencia, Burgos, Salamanca or Zamora."
