La Regenta is the great novel of the 19th century in Spain. The passions, hatreds, jealousies and obsessions that arouse its protagonist in Vetusta serve Clarín to carry out an x-ray of Spain at that time, subjecting all the social classes of the time to ironic criticism.

Ana Ozores marries the former Regent of the city, a man much older than her, and at the same time begins to be courted by other men from Vetusta. The protagonist begins to live in a suffocating environment that clashes with her sensitive and dreamy temperament.
