In 1927, it was 300 years since the death of Luis de Góngora. The author is considered one of the greatest geniuses of the Spanish Golden Age and known for his extensive work as well as for the satirical rivalry he had with Francisco de Quevedo. As a tribute and symbol of respect, a group of friends from the Residencia de estudiantes in Madrid decided to meet at the Ateneo de Sevilla and remember the maestro Góngora. These writers, poets, painters and intellectuals of all kinds would become known as the Generation of '27.
The diverse group of writers includes names such as Pedro Salinas, Jorge Guillén, Gerardo Diego, Dámaso Alonso, Vicente Aleixandre, Federico García Lorca, Luis Cernuda and Rafael Alberti, as well as Emilio Prados and Manuel Altolaguirre.
