LINDABRIDIS CASTLE, BY CALDERÓN, CO-PRODUCED WITH THE NATIONAL THEATRE COMPANY
ANA ZAMORA, winner of the 2023 NATIONAL THEATRE AWARD, directs this exciting show that integrates dramatic action, live music and object work and is co-produced by NAO D'AMORES and the COMPAÑÍA NACIONAL DE TEATRO CLÁSICO
SYNOPSIS Princess Lindabridis , to inherit the throne of Tartary, must marry a knight who can defeat her brother Meridian in a tournament. To do so, in search of the husband who best suits her needs, she travels the world in a flying castle.
INTRODUCTION
Lindabridis Castle was first published in 1691, although it had premiered as a courtly festival in the Royal Hall of the Palace much earlier, believed to be around 1661. However, to write this work, Calderón had been inspired by the Espejo de príncipes y caballeros by Diego Ortúñez de Calahorra, which although it was published in 1555, like any good novel of chivalry, refers to an earlier time.
In this piece, Calderón adapts the chivalric theme to his own theatrical context and creates a palatial game with a carnivalesque air in which the Baroque discovers itself through a Middle Ages dreamed by the Renaissance. Today, in the 21st century, Nao d'amores and the CNTC, guided by Calderón as a glue of times and wills, add another temporal level to this Castle of Lindabridis: that of our contemporaneity.
Genre: Theatre. Style: Tragic-Comic. Duration: 75 min.
