"A step at the Rueda" , based on texts by Federico García Lorca and Lope de Rueda
In the midst of the Second Spanish Republic, three comedians travel the dusty roads of our country with their "Thespian cart", ready to delight children and adults by exchanging their boredom for fun and their sadness for joy. They are comedians fulfilling the urgent educational mission of bringing culture to all those corners forgotten by history. They come in search of a new audience, the one that is on the road at the end of any day, to show them the enormous wealth of our classical theatre – the great treasures hidden in our books! And so, between jokes and songs, they unravel the best of the repertoire of the great Lope de Rueda and parade "step by step" all that mosaic of figures and characters that the brilliant comedian from Cordoba knew how to interpret, as Cervantes said, with the utmost excellence and propriety.
Azar Teatro was founded in 1990 and, since then, its shows have been an expression of the freedom of themes, techniques and resources that the performing arts demand. They practice their profession freely, but assuming the responsibility that this entails, taking the utmost care of all aspects of their work and creating their own style that does not speak of a particular theatrical genre, but of a way of doing things. From diversity and commitment, without disdaining any language or space, with classic and contemporary authors, their work is a faithful reflection of the Company's ability to take on all kinds of projects. Azar Teatro is present in the main national and international circuits and festivals.
