The Provincial Historical Archive of Zamora is hosting the exhibition "The medieval document in the chancellery of Alfonso X" from November 14, 2024 to March 31, 2005 .
This is a travelling exhibition curated by the Historical Archive of the Nobility of Toledo (AHNOB) , originating within the programme of activities that took place in 2021 on the occasion of the celebration of the 8th centenary of the birth of Alfonso X.
The purpose is to offer an overview of the Castilian chancellery and its evolution through the formal and material elements used in the drafting, authentication and issuance of documents that gave legitimacy to the mandates and decisions of the monarchs, with special dedication to the privilege of the throne.
It has a total of 23 explanatory panels and facsimile reproductions of eleven documents kept in the Historical Archive of the Nobility. Also on display are five original documents from the collection of the Provincial Historical Archive of Zamora , highlighting the privileges issued by the chancelleries of Ferdinand II of Leon (1165), Alfonso X (1253) and Peter I of Castile (1351).
The exhibition is divided into four thematic sections :
- The chancellery: a scriptorium at the service of the king.
- The privilege rolled before Alfonso.
- The privilege filmed in the times of Alfonso X.
- Royal letters and stamps.
The exhibition is an example of collaboration between archives and state and regional administrations and will remain open to the public until March 2025.
