The Salamanca City Council and the Castilian and Leonese Institute of Language are organizing the meeting Legends of Oral Tradition on Tuesday, November 19 (8:00 p.m.) in the Sala de la Palabra of the Liceo Theater, which will feature the presence of the Salamanca anthropologist Pedro Javier Cruz Sánchez, who will give a presentation entitled The sacred landscapes of western Salamanca in the genesis of the legends of oral tradition of a border territory . This meeting represents a commitment to recover and disseminate the abundant oral tradition that exists in Castile and León.
In his speech, the guest will emphasize that the west of the province of Salamanca has an important intangible cultural heritage of enormous interest, since it contains numerous legends and ritual practices whose origin can be traced back to the symbolic configuration of the territory and which gives rise to the configuration of a sacred landscape with a marked personality, as it is located in a border area, not only natural but also cultural.
Through a series of examples present in this provincial area, bordering Portugal, Cáceres and Zamora, Cruz Sánchez will address a whole series of marks present in the territory, including sacred rocks or sacra saxa, sacred constructions and others that give rise to a legendary component of their own and that also allows for the existence of a ritual of evident ethnographic interest.
