Rediscovered in the 1990s by Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola, this documentary reveals a key moment in the history of cinema through the stories of surviving actors and technicians, and shows the unusual contrast between the brilliance of the Slavic soul and the chiaroscuros of Afro-Cuban culture.
