"The Stolen Maja or The Museum of Empty Paintings" tells the story of how two women are able to rob the Prado Museum in Madrid with just a fake business card.

Mercedes and Esperanza, two women devastated by war, decide to put an end to their precarious situation and begin to live two invented lives: that of the Marquise of Arnuossa and her maid Sophie. Thanks to this false noble title, the two women manage to enter the most important museum in our country and steal works signed by Goya or El Greco that they will then sell on the international black market.

"The Stolen Maja or The Museum of Empty Paintings" is inspired by the story of María Teresa Álvarez Herreros de Tejada, a woman who during the post-war period appropriated almost 400 assets that did not belong to her, simulating a title and a false life. Based on this true story, Jesús Torres has created an exciting adventure of intrigue, passion, walks through the Prado, descents to the suburbs of Madrid and meetings with the high bourgeoisie of the time. A theatrical show that dances between comedy and drama to bring to light a captivating story that celebrates audacity in times of adversity.
