The remnants of the Muslim period are scarce, only a few curtain walls can be observed. Alfonso I 'The Battler' circa 1128, built a new fence. The actual rampart is from the late XII or early XIII century, and is formed by two walls made of stone blocks and stuffed-lime mortar, conferring the building much robustness with almost 2.5 meters thick.

In the XIX century, with the Peninsular War, the wall was demolished. Of the four original gates: Gate of Mercado, of Herreros, of la Villa and of Berlanga, are only preserved the three first. It also had three side doors which of which are kept the San Miguel and Santa Maria.
