The Pyramid of the Italians is a funerary sanctuary built between 1938 and 1939 in the port of Escudo, in the Valdebezana Valley, for the burial of Italian soldiers who died in the Battle of Escudo in the Spanish Civil War. It is a 20-meter-high construction of cement lined with limestone plates, the work of architect Attilio Radic within the rationalism of interwar architecture.

In July 1939, the burial of the fallen who had been buried in different cemeteries in the area took place, with the presence of the Italian Foreign Minister.

The Shield Ossuary is related to the great Italian sacrari of the interwar period, a construction model that in Italy in the 20th century had great development with the construction of large commemorative cemeteries dedicated to those killed in wars, which belong to the so-called "architecture of the memory".
