Church of Santa Maria la Real
Gothic church that was ordered to be built by King Sancho IV in 1290, after finding an image of the Virgin in the place. The most important thing is the doorway, under a deep portico, adorned with a sculptural work linked to Leonese Gothic.
To the south of the central section of the nave a spectacular Gothic portal opens, sheltered under a wide portico with a ribbed vault. On the sides of this cover we find two galleries of blind arches, the lower ones rest on a continuous bench and the upper ones, sheltered by canopies, contain sculptures of saints and biblical characters among which would be the Virgin of La Hiniesta, an announcing angel and another Virgin in a state of good hope who moved into the temple. The highlight of the cover is perhaps the tympanum, divided into two registers: inside the farewell of the Magi to Herod is represented until their arrival in Bethlehem; in the superior one, Christ Judge between San Juan and the Virgin.
