The building of the Royal Monastery began in 1482 with the construction of the Cloister of the Novitiates. It has other two splendid cloisters: the Cloister of Silence, also known as Cloister of the Deceased, because the friars were buried here before; and the Kings’ Cloister, area that was for the Summer Palace of the Reyes Católicos.

One of the most important works of the interior is the main altarpiece, by Pedro Berruguete (1440-1504), within which is located the grave of the only son of the Reyes Católicos, the Prince Don Juan, who died prematurely before reaching the throne. This grave was sculpted with alabaster by Italian Domenico Francelli.

    • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturdays, Sundays and Public holidays: 10:30 AM - 2:00 PM and 3:30 PM - 7:30 PM (final pass one hour before closing.)
