The first town in the province of Palencia on the Pilgrims’ Route to Santiago. This municipality is included in the declaration of the Pilgrims’ Route as a Historic Trail, and which covers part of the ways taken by pilgrims from all over Spain and Europe towards Santiago de Compostela.

Itero de la Vega’s principal monuments include the Renaissance Jurisdiction Column. Once the site of five chapels, today just one remains, the 12th century Chapel of Nuestra Señora de la Piedad, which houses an image of Saint James the Pilgrim. An essential stopping point on the Pilgrims’ Route to Santiago.
