The passage of time seems to have not made a dent in this magical corner of the Valley of Silence, which boasts that it looks practically the same today as the ascetic monks found it in their retreats ten centuries ago. The most important monument is the church of Santiago de Peñalba, a Mozarabic jewel that was part of the monastery founded by San Genadio in the 10th century. It is accessed by passing through a beautiful door with a double horseshoe arch that is supported by three marble columns. Inside there are interesting remains of mural paintings.
