Order of the Birth of Our Lord of Gómez Manrique. First play in Spanish by a well-known author.
In the mid-15th century, the playwright from Palencia Gómez Manrique (1412-1490), Jorge Manrique's uncle, wrote the "Auto del Nacimiento de Nuestro Señor", a jewel of Castilian literature and the first play text of which the author is known. Gómez Manrique devised this work to be represented in the Convent of Calabazanos, where his sister was vicar.
Since then and following the tradition, this Christmas Auto has been represented in the same place, on dates close to Christmas Eve.
