On March 11, 2022, the Ayoluengo Oil Field was declared BIC with the category of Ethnological Ensemble by the Junta de Castilla y León.

The only onshore oil field in the Iberian Peninsula is located north of the province of Burgos, in the municipality of Sargentes de la Lora.

Oil gushed out for the first time in Spain on June 6, 1964, although production would begin in January 1967. During 50 years of exploitation, the extractor pumps, seesaws or little horses, its most significant elements, have drawn and defined the landscape of the Lora. An area of 6 km² and 52 production wells constitute the legacy of this geomining industry.

Within the territory of the Field, in the urban area of Sargentes de la Lora, is the Petroleum Museum, a unique museum in Spain that allows you to discover this Industrial Heritage.
