What are the wines from the DOP "ABADÍA RETUERTA" like?
The wines covered by the DOP «ABADÍA RETUERTA» can be white or red with ageing. They are made from the white varieties Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Godello, Albillo Mayor and Verdejo and the red varieties Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Garnacha, Graciano, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Petit Verdot.
The red wines have a high colour intensity, great volume in the mouth, structured with high levels of polyphenolic compounds (anthocyanins). They have a firm character and an adequate balance between acidity, alcohol and pH. The use of yeasts native to the vineyard allows for a clean aromatic profile, both fruity and floral, fresh with very unique notes of Mediterranean scrub and balsamic (aromatic herbs (thyme, lavender), rockrose) reminiscent of the vegetation in the area that protects the vineyard plots and offers a distinguishable characteristic compared to wines from neighbouring areas.
