How are the wines of the IGP "Castilla y León"?

The wines covered by the IGP "Castilla y León", in its traditional name, "Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León", can be: still wines (white, rosé and red), liqueur wines, quality sparkling wines produced by the traditional method, semi-sparkling wines and overripe grape wines.

  • Young white wines are fresh and fruity, with a great presence on the palate, which sets them apart, in a special way, from young white wines made in other regions.
  • The rosé wines, especially those made in traditional areas for this type of wine, are fresh, with red fruit aromas and a pleasant palate. If they are from Prieto Picudo, they are very special, with an important body and fruity aftertaste. Also the needle that some keep gives them a special touch.
  • The red wines are powerful, with aromas of ripe fruit, a large amount of coloring matter, good structure and great capacity for long aging.
  • Sparkling wines, although they have begun to be produced more recently, are fresh, delicate and with a complex aromatic profile marked by the variety and the notes typical of aging on the lees.
  • Sparkling wines correspond to a very traditional production in some areas of Castilla y León. They are usually rosé wines, with greater intensity of color, fresh, great liveliness, accentuated by the needle and greater structure in the mouth.
  • Lastly, liqueur and overripe grape wines are wines with a high alcohol content, coming from very ripe or overripe grapes, complex aromas, with traces of oxidative aging, in many cases. Its characteristics are reminiscent of the traditional elaborations of Western Andalusia.
